Ember of the Last Keep

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Ember of the Last Keep is the kind of RPG that respects your time without dumbing itself down. Battles are turn-based and readable, every ability tells you what it does, and the party-building lets you mix classes in ways the game clearly expects you to experiment with. We built a team around a tanky knight and two casters and got slapped around until we rethought it, which is exactly what you want.

The story leans darker than the cheerful art suggests, with a fallen kingdom and some genuinely bleak choices. Dialogue is well written for a mobile title, and the save-anywhere design means you can play a single fight in a queue or sink an hour in one go.

Progression stays steady and the game never feels like it's holding content hostage. For anyone who misses old handheld RPGs, this scratches that itch neatly.
